February Issue 2009

The Haen Gallery in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Larry Gray

The Haen Gallery in Asheville, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Larry Gray: New Paintings, on view through Feb. 28, 2009.

Gray's oil landscapes are expansive in depth and rich in color, providing magnificent atmospheric studies of time, light, and space.  According to the artist all his work strives for a fundamental foundation of equilibrium; each piece seeks to balance the intellect and the intuitive. The viewer perceives an exquisite translation of light and shadow within the clouds and the great expanse of the land below, as well as the feeling and emotion each image invokes.

Gray resides in Pisgah Forest, NC, and his work has been shown and collected widely from coast to coast. He is originally from Columbia, TN. He attended both the University of Georgia and Yale, then taught for many years at Humboldt State University in northern California before moving to western North Carolina. Gray's work is now included in the collections of MOMA in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, among others.

This body of work marks Gray's fourth exhibition at the Haen Gallery since it's inception in the summer of 2006.
