February Issue 2009

Vista Studios in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Todd Oelze

Vista Studios in Columbia, SC, will feature the exhibit, SuperUnnatural, including abstract digital photography by Todd Oelze, on display at Gallery 80808 from Feb. 19 - 24, 2009.

On the heels of the well-received exhibit, Strokes of Light, Oelze offers 33 new works. The artist says, "I continue to take great pride in the fact that my images are actual photographs and are not computer generated. It's one thing to present photographs that are unique, but another to provide images that are visually stimulating, which I hope I've accomplished."

Viewers often mistake Oelze's striking photographs as paintings. His work is punctuated by intense colors and varying textures, and the utilization of implied space is used to intrigue the viewer. Oelze's photographs are often common objects presented in an unrecognizable form.

The Blythewood, SC, resident's work is evolving, yet still remains true to his visual style. Oelze states, "I'm often asked of my photographs - What is it?" At first, I wasn't sure what to think of that, but I've come to the conclusion that, if anything, my work is thought provoking, so that's a good thing."
