Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, Features Works by Linda Stein

Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, is presenting, Linda Stein: The Fluidity of Gender, which features works that challenge the traditional gender roles assigned to men and women, on view in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery, located in the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts through Feb. 28, 2014.

“Art opens minds,” states Stein, “and encourages a meaningful exchange of ideas. It brings to light new concepts and inspires participants to turn ideas into actions.” Using images of warriors as diverse as Wonder Woman™, gladiators, and medieval knights, Stein creates armor for “brave upstanders” who will work for social change and gender justice. With art as a starting point, Stein empowers people to more easily reach their personal authenticity and, beyond themselves, accept this in others.

Her artistic practice fosters acceptance of evolving expressions of gender through artistic media and dynamic intellectual exchange. With exhibits, lectures, and performances, Stein addresses issues of racism, sexism, ableism, and homophobia as seen through the lens of bullying.
