Burroughs - Chapin Art Museum Features the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild Juried Show 2000

The third annual juried show of the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild will open at the Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC, on Mar. 18 and will continue through Apr. 21, 2000.

This year's judge is Leo Twiggs, a noted batik artist who has created his own unique process and style. Twiggs received a doctorate in Art Education from the University of Georgia and is now an artist-in-residence at Claflin College in Orangeburg, SC. He was formerly a professor of art at South Carolina State University and was the Executive Director of the I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium.

The work in the show varies from paintings and drawings to ceramics and sculpture and spans in style from traditional to abstract. Awards presented will be Best in Show with a prize of $1000; First Prize for $750; Second Prize for $500; and Third Prize for $250. This year, a special award, the Brookgreen Gardens Sculpture Award, will also be presented for $400.

Some of the artists represented in this exhibit are: Susan Duke, watercolor still life, Bob Hatfield, landscape photography, Annie Jong, layered ceramic shapes, Kathy Metts, pastel watercolor, Alex Powers, drawings in gouache, charcoal and pastels, Joan Sanders, landscape oils, Ken Smith, expressionistic sculpture, Donna Goodman, digital images, Burton Gale, impressionistic bronzes and many more.
