Artspace in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Amy Funderburk

Artist Amy Funderburk will be exhibiting her figurative symbolic series Wisdom of the Ancient Lore: Symbolic Interpretation of Spiritual Knowledge in a solo show in Gallery 2 at Artspace, located in the Historic City Market in Raleigh, NC. The exhibition runs from Mar. 2 to Apr. 14, 2001,

The exhibit will give viewers a rare opportunity to see all 22 extant works in the series of large format oil paintings. Since 1990, Funderburk has completed 17 of the 22 Major Arcana themed paintings, as well as five based on the 12 signs of the Zodiac. Her most recent painting, The Shaman's Gateway, will debut at Artspace.

Comprised of a collection of archetypes, when arranged in order, each series becomes a journey of spiritual development towards enlightenment. Funderburk's current work most reflects her studies in ancient Celtic spirituality. Her belief is that by visually retelling stories of ancestral heritage of which many are not aware, we can better understand our own roots, for these archetypes link ancestral wisdom to our modern inner selves.
