The Women's Center in Chapel Hill, NC, Offers Educational Series for Women in the Arts and Community in March

In conjunction with The Women's Center's art exhibition, Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands, the Center offers a series of educational workshops for women in the arts and the community for the month of March: Feminist Perspective of Women in the Arts and The Business of Art.

A Feminist Discussion of Women in the Arts - Elin O'Hara Slavick, Associate Professor of Studio Art, will discuss the context of feminist, political and conceptual strategies in art. As a mixed-media artist, Slavick has produced public works, photographs, books and embroidered "paintings" and more. Her works have been showcased all over the world, from France to Hong Kong and the United States. The lecture will take place at the Hanes Art Center Auditorium on the UNC Chapel Hill campus. Mar. 25, 5-7 pm. Free.

The Business of Art - Join local artist Kimberli Matin to learn how to create and maintain a successful career as an artist. Matin will teach you how to market your product as well as pricing, specifically wholesale, retail and shows. Please bring a sample of your potential product to class. Apr. 9 & 16, 7-8:30 pm. Fee is $15 members/$24 non-members.

The Orange County Arts Commission along with the Center sponsors the educational series. Artists and the community at large are invited to participate in one or all parts of the series scheduled for March and April.

The Women's Center, a Triangle United Way member agency, is a nonprofit community center offering information and referral, career, legal, financial and support services to women and their families in Orange, Durham, and Chatham counties and beyond.
