Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, Features Works by Kipp McIntyre

Tryon Painters and Sculptors will host an exhibit Dressage Drawings: Recent Works by Kipp McIntyre in the Mural Room of the Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, from Mar. 3 - 26, 2002.

The artist says, "This series of drawings was inspired by the Equestrian tradition in Tryon, NC. After moving to Tryon, I became interested in watching and drawing Dressage with a particular interest in the capturing of subtleties associated with this unique art form. Specify the depiction of the movements and expressions of the horses and riders as the two strove to achieve what in Classical Dressage is termed 'Collection.' As I developed my observation of the rides, I began spending time attending Dressage School Clinics drawing the activity directly from the edge of the arena while the horses and riders were being coached. The results were straightforward renditions of individual riders that began when the horse entered the arena and ended when the horse left the arena. The individual drawings of each of the rides are exhibited as completed at the end of each ride and were not manipulated in the studio."

McIntyre was born in Key West, FL, in 1962 and received his BFA in Drawing from the Atlanta College of Art. He has shown in solo and group shows in the Southeast United States and his work in held in both public and private collections. He is represented by Solomon Projects in Atlanta, GA and lives in Tryon, NC.
