The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, Presents New Works by Karen Larson Turner

The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, invites you to mark your calendar for, Skies, a one woman show honoring Karen Larson Turner. The exhibition begins Mar. 21 and continues through Apr. 4, 2003.

Turner has focused her energy and time on creating a magnificent body of work that represents the aerial views and skies that one can only see in the Lowcountry. From soft foggy mornings to magnificent Carolina sunsets her work brings a freedom and spontaneity to her brush as she seeks to capture the effects of light and shadow in painterly strokes.

After many years of landscape painting Turner says, "Her interest has turned increasingly toward the celestial. The sky is a constant backdrop, setting the tone for each day, capable of conveying both power and serenity. No two skies are alike, and I see each one as a gift, the art of a divine hand. My newest paintings explore the variety of moods the sky can create."

Turner's career as an artist has been a natural continuation throughout her lifetime. At age fourteen she was painting commission watercolor paintings of the beautiful Victorian homes on Martha's Vineyard and developed a great talent and love for plein air painting. Turner furthered her study in oil painting and received her BFA from Calvin College in 1991 and in 1992 she attended the School of Representational Art in Chicago. SORA was established to bring the great painting tradition of the Old Masters to a new generation of artists. Turner's work is a wonderful representation of their motto.

Everyone will love the feeling of tranquility and the appreciation for our surroundings in this astounding body of work. "With the results of my own skyward musings, I hope to share with the viewer how exciting - and humbling - looking up can be." Turner is a young talented artist that is on the road to great success, and we are proud to present her new body of work, Skies.
