Fountainside Fine Art Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Features Works by Rick McClure– People & Places

Oklahoma City-based artist Rick McClure's one man show, People & Places: Through the Eyes of an Artist, will be on view at Fountainside Fine Art Gallery in Wilmington, NC, from Mar. 5 - 26, 2004. For his third solo exhibition with the gallery, McClure will be exploring the landscapes, cityscapes, and figures that inhabit his life. McClure will also be in the area to conduct his very popular three day workshop "A Fresh, Clean Approach to On Location Painting" scheduled for Mar. 17,18, & 19, 2004.

McClure is an award winning teacher and plein air painter. His free, painterly approach to rendering subjects throughout the world has become popular with collectors nationwide.

McClure offers the following statement about his work. "To date my art has been a journey, a wonderful journey that has included excersions into large abstract acrylic pieces, modular figurative studies, and contemporary watercolor. All of these experiences have led me to my current passion for "plein air" oil landscape painting and the transference of these little gems into larger studio works. The challenge of confronting nature and the public on location has given a new vitality to my work."

"Although my paintings are representational in content, I avoid the labored treatment of traditional landscape painting. Instead, I strive to capture a spontaneous glimpse of nature, free of overstated surface detail and void of a "picture postcard" interpretation. Thus, my goal is to produce works that are fresh, clean, and as Charles Movalliu states, 'more akin to sushi that fried fish.'"
