Charleston Crafts in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Four Member Artists

Charleston Crafts Gallery in Charleston, SC, will be showcasing the work of four of their members from Mar. 1 through Apr. 30, 2005, in the exhibit, Quatro. The exhibit features a range of diverse media from whimsical to functional, highlighting both nationally known and emerging fine craft artists, including the works of Nancy Badgley, Carolyn Meyer, Joy Ribisi, and Doug Smith.

An award winning painter, Nancy Badgley utilizes hand dyed silk as a canvas for her wearable art and home furnishings. With a one-eyed cat as an assistant, her creations explore color and design with an off-beat edge.

After completing an apprenticeship with a master sculptor, Carolyn Meyer began to create gold and silver wrapped jewelry using free-form minerals as the centerpieces. Her work is well known in the Southeast Gem and Mineral Federation and in the fine craft world.

An emerging artist in photography, Joy Ribisi currently is concentrating on using Polaroid transfers to explore the connection between painting and fine art photography. With her images she strives to capture moments of serenity utilizing both architectural and human forms.

Using a lathe, Doug Smith creates bowls and vases using exotic woods, spalted woods, and alabaster stone. By studying the raw form, Smith unmasks the hidden beauty of wood or stone to create an art piece Mother Nature would envy.
