Fountainside Fine Art Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Features Works by Rick McClure

Oklahoma City-based artist Rick McClure's latest one man show, A Coastal Journey, will be on view at Fountainside Fine Art Gallery in Wilmington, NC, from Mar. 16 through Apr. 13, 2005.

For his fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, McClure will be exploring the coastal landscapes of southeastern North Carolina. McClure will also be in the area to conduct his popular three day plein air painting workshop Mar. 16, 17, & 18, 2005.

McClure is an award winning teacher and plein air painter. His free, painterly approach to rendering subjects has become popular with collectors nationwide.

"To date my art has been a journey, a wonderful journey that has included excersions into large abstract acrylic pieces, modular figurative studies, and contemporary watercolor," says McClure. "All of these experiences have led me to my current passion for 'Plein Air' oil landscape painting and the transference of these little gems into larger studio works. The challenge of confronting nature and the public on location has given a new vitality to my work".

McClure continues, "Although my paintings are representational in content, I avoid the labored treatment of traditional landscape painting. Instead, I strive to capture a spontaneous glimpse of nature, free of overstated surface detail and void of a 'picture postcard' interpretation. Thus, my goal is to produce works that are fresh, clean, and as Charles Movalli states, "more akin to sushi that fried fish.""
