Furman University in Greenville, SC, Offers Works by Tom Dimond

Paintings by Clemson University art professor Tom Dimond will be on display in Furman University's Thompson Gallery in Greenville, SC, through Mar. 17, 2006.

Dimond has taught at Clemson since 1979 and served as director of Clemson's Rudolph E. Lee Gallery from 1973 to 1988. His works have been featured in national competitions and invitational exhibitions, and he has frequent shows throughout South Carolina. Dimond holds degrees from the Massachusetts College of Art and the University of Tennessee.

Dimond's paintings seek to represent a synthesis between the visual environment and the intellectual and emotional responses encountered in the creative process. He relies on circular forms, a grid structure, incidental lines and heavily textured gestures that relate to psychological and emotional states of mind. This exhibit was partly inspired by the tile patterns of 15th century Florentine artist Paolo Uccello, Tibetan paintings and works of the early German collage artist Kurt Schwitters.
