Asheville Area Arts Council in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Sahar Fakhoury and Jillian O'Connor

Asheville Area Arts Council in Asheville, NC, will present an exhibit of works by ceramicist and painter Sahar Fakhoury and photographer Jillian O'Connor, on view in the Front Gallery, from Mar. 2 - 29, 2007. The exhibit take us through the personal impact of their travels throughout India and the Middle East.

Jillian O'Connor's latest work is inspired by an 18 month sojourn through India. This body of photography is entitled Sevamehe which translates from Sanskrit as "We Serve and work in devotion." The spirituality she bore witness to, that infuses all aspects of Indian life, compelled O'Connor to record her journey from the cities to mountains.

Sahar Fakhoury moved to the United States from Kuwait with her family after the Gulf War in 1990. Not having the opportunity to attend art school in her native country, she studied with artists in the area until earning her degree in Fine Art from UNC-Asheville. Her recent works are inspired by the issues and frustrations surrounding war and violence and their effect on innocent people.

There will also be an exhibit in the Back Gallery, during the same time frame, of photographs from the Lake Eden Arts Festival from October 2006 by students from the W.C. Reid Center for the Creative Arts. The Reid Center for the Creative Arts provides creative arts, recreation and academic opportunities designed to enrich the growth and development of people in the Asheville area and all of Western North Carolina.
