Art Nouveau Gallery and Studio in Myrtle Beach, SC, Features Works by Judy O'Brien

Art Nouveau Gallery and Studio in Myrtle Beach, SC, will present an exhibition of works by Judy O'Brien, on view through Mar. 1 - 31, 2008.

O'Brien, having been born and raised in the Northeastern part of our country, has become well known as a local and successful artist in the Carolinas. She has resided here in the Myrtle Beach and Surfside areas with her husband since approximately 1995.

Since a child, O'Brien has been intrigued with drawing, and, as a young girl, developed a love for color. School contests and "doodling" were her basics. After attending art school in New York City, she initially became a commercial artist for an advertising firm. Later, as an art teacher for 25 years in a private elementary school, O'Brien was inspired through the eyes of the children that she taught. "I taught the children," she says, "but I also learned from them. They saw everything as bright and new." This very much influenced her outlook on color, she admits, even to the colors of the clothes she chose to wear.

When asked what actually inspired her to become an artist, O'Brien will say, with no hesitation, that her love for the ocean and the beach has greatly influenced her works. "I love to focus on the sea life. It has been the inspiration for my collection of works, primarily of fish, sand, and shells, where I've used mixed mediums of watercolors, ink, and pastels." O'Brien also creates collages, using these various mediums, concentrating on textures, shapes, and colors, thereby creating unique works of interest.

O'Brien's works are currently found in private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
