North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Cynthia Walker

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC, will present the exhibit, Silent Beauty: A View of the Changing Seasons, featuring Cynthia Walker's award winning, semi-abstract, fine art nature photography, in the Museum's Nature Art Gallery from Mar. 7 - 30, 2008. The exhibition, as the title suggests, captures the natural beauty of the different guises and colors of the four seasons.

Walker first came to North Carolina as a traveler and was immediately drawn to the culture and diversity of the western part of the state. She decided to stay awhile and explore and eleven years later she finds herself living and working in Black Mountain, NC. The mountains have become a constant source of inspiration and a frequent subject in her work. Semi-abstract in style, her work reveals the mystery and beauty of nature using elements of design, form and lighting.

Walker says she finds the changing seasons particularly captivating. "I enjoy walking through the woods, silently listening and observing my surroundings, such as the vibrant spring with her sweet smell of new growth and the fall when all of life slows down for the long, enduring hibernation of  winter. Each new season is discovered with open eyes," says Walker.

All of Walker's photographs are taken with a Canon Digital Rebel XTi, using professional Canon lenses and her prints are numbered, limited editions on archival quality fine art paper, printed with archival ink on Epson and Hewlett-Packard gallery quality printers.

Walker maintains an almost continuous schedule of exhibitions in most of the major arts festivals and photography exhibitions of  the Southeast and has won several awards.  Professional affiliations include the F/32 Photography Group, Carolina Nature Photography Association, Black Mountain College, Handmade in America and the American Craft Council among others.
