Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, SC, Offers Group Exhibition

Instead of Small or Big Works, the annual events that Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, SC, normally hosts, this year each artist will be tackling the same 1 by 3 ratio canvas size in a show where one shape fits all. The exhibition, appropriately titled Ratio, will hang from Mar. 1-31, 2008.
Ratio has been developed to unite artists from the Lowcountry and across the country, and to provide a sense of unity among the Charleston art community. The exhibition unfolds with a general theme of congruent one by three surfaces. Visitors will encounter images, objects, ideas, and living artists that are shaping the direction of Charleston contemporary art. Selected artists from local galleries will present their best work, not medium specific, in Robert Lange Studio's main downstairs gallery space.
All of the artists chosen for the show are active fine art painters and photographers. Each artist submitted one to two pieces that represent their stylistic approach to art.
"After the success of Small Works and Big Works the last few years we wanted to have a show that could again bring some talented artists together," said Robert Lange, artist and gallery owner. "We needed a new theme to tie them all together; why not a ratio?"
Mickey Williams
Ratio's dramatic, engaging, and critical, immersing visitors in powerful encounters with the best contemporary, experimental art in Charleston including but not limited to the works of Lynne Riding from Corrigan Gallery LLC, Amy Lind, Kerry Brooks, John Duckworth, Robert Lange, Nathan Durfee, Julie Henson, JB Boyd, Megan Aline and Michael Morrison from Robert Lange Studios, Seth Curcio from Redux Studios, Fred Jamar from Charles II Fine Art, American Impressionist Kevin LePrince from The Wells Gallery, Mickey Williams from Mickey Williams Fine Art, Austin Schulz & Jameela Goudarzi from The Ranch, and Lolly Koon from Lolly Koon Fine Art.
Nathan Durfee
Familiar to RLS, painter Nathan Durfee, a nonconformist who creates illustrative works in both oil and pen and ink, has creative a series of four comical narratives for the show. Painter Robert Lange creates photo-realistic images, with disciplined brushstrokes and stylized geometric division of space.
Seth Cursio of Redux, with Xerox and laser copiers, screen prints, billboard pasting, enamel paints, vinyl stuck on the walls, creates American icons, giving them a new artistic spin with muted colors like grey and dark blue.
Faced with the dimension challenge, painter Fred Jamar from Charles II Fine Art, created Red Barn, a work in oil that embodies the whimsical nature of life in Charleston portraying the familiar red barn near the Charleston open air market.
