Smith-Killian Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Betty Anglin Smith

Smith-Killian Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Panoramas, an intimate exhibition unveiling new paintings by beloved Lowcountry artist Betty Anglin Smith. The exhibit will be on view from Mar. 7 - 24, 2008.

Known for her vivid colors and bold brushstrokes, Smith depicts her trademark landscapes with a twist as she experiments with elegantly elongated canvases that range in size from 10 x 30 inches to 24 x 72 inches and offers both horizontal and vertical perspectives. "Considering that the Lowcountry is itself very long and flat, I was excited to try a different concept that would magnify this panoramic view," says Smith.  For inspiration Smith traveled as far south as the ACE Basin, out to Kiawah, and of course, her studio that overlooks the marshes of Wadamalaw Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway. Her continuing interest in the effects of light is evident in the spectacular sunsets and dramatic skies that balance the landmass.

Fiery Skies, a vertical panorama by Smith, is also a highlight of a concurrent museum exhibition entitled, The Smiths: A Lowcountry Family of Artists, on view through Apr. 27, 2008, at the Franklin G. Burroughs Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Smith-Killian Fine Art is known for the contemporary realism and color of Lowcountry painter Betty Anglin Smith and her triplets, painters Jennifer Smith Rogers and Shannon Smith, and photographer Tripp Smith. Bronze sculpture by Darrell Davis and oil paintings by Kim English, Susan Romaine, and Kevin Beers are also featured. The gallery is a member of the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association and the French Quarter Gallery Association.
