Figments Art Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Features Works by Dorian Hill

Figments Art Gallery in Wilmington, NC, will present Dorian Hill - Metallo: Modern Minimalism on Metal, featuring new works by Dorian Hill, on view from Mar. 7 through Apr. 1, 2014. A reception will be held on Mar. 7, from 6-8pm.

In the exhibition, Hill presents a series of printed artwork on metal that express her minimalistic view of the world around her. Hill portrays the purity she finds in nature as she focuses in on the details, shapes and textures without ambient distraction.

“The modern technology of printing on metal allows me to display my images in large format, with a clean pure look unencumbered by traditional framing - the images appear to float off the wall,” says Hill.

Hill’s exhibition is comprised of 24” x 24” and 40” x 40” metal floating prints created using the relatively new technology of dye sublimation, a heat transfer process that provides her with a maximum archival quality print resistant to fading, humidity and water.

A third generation visual artist from Hollywood, CA, Hill has been framing shots in her mind since childhood. Possessing a love and fascination with the fine details found in nature and having lived in exotic locales as a professional model, Hill has been able to capture that diverse wonder through photography. Shooting exclusively with an iPhone for the past 4 years, she has been pushing the limits of the medium with large format prints on metal.

Hill has received numerous awards for her work including first place in the Wilmington Art Association’s Annual Spring Art Show, Honorable Mentions in The Annual International Photography Awards Competition and has displayed her work in juried art shows and exhibitions in Maine, Charleston, SC, Wilmington, and the upcoming ArtFields Competition in Lake City, SC.

Hill currently lives and works in Wilmington, where she is also well known for designing and marketing a line of what she refers to as “off the wall” functional art.
