Fine Art at Baxters Gallery in New Bern, NC, Features Works by Peter Berg

Fine Art at Baxters Gallery in New Bern, NC, will presents an exhibit of metal and stainless steel bird, fish, crab and saltwater sculptures by artist Peter Berg, on view from Mar. 14 through Apr. 30, 2014. A reception will be held on Mar. 14, from 5-8pm, during the downtown Art Walk.

Berg’s sculptures are made out of steel or stainless steel. He uses a hand held plasma cutter, hammers, anvil, heat, MIG welders, TIG welders, brute force, sweat and finesse to coax large sheets of metal into creatures and plant life.

“I really enjoy working with stainless steel,” says Berg. “It has a flow and smoothness that changes color and hue with the ambient light. As the day wears on from afternoon to dusk different areas of the sculpture emerge and show their luster and character. There is great satisfaction in creating a piece of artwork and have someone covet it enough to acquire it and bring it into their life.”

Berg’s interpretation of the natural world he sees around him, inspired by scuba diving, kayaking and fishing is deeply satisfying. He especially loves making custom designs where clients get to share their input and vision for the specific piece they have in mind for their space.

Berg received his BFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, Art Student League, New York. He makes his home in Ocoee, TN.
