Arts Council of York County in Rock Hill, SC, Features Works by Sudy Dressler and Mary McCorkle

The Arts Council of York County in Rock Hill, SC, is presenting an exhibit of works by York, SC, artists Sudy Dressler and Mary McCorkle, on view in the Williams & Fudge Gallery, located at the at the Community Performance Center, through Mar. 16, 2014.

Sudy Dressler has been immersed in the arts throughout her life. She painted throughout her childhood alongside her siblings, and studied art at Randolph-Macon Women’s College, Burren College of Art. She continues her education through workshops and classes, most recently studying with Andy Braitman, Henry Isaccs, Kim English, Brian Blood and Trevor Geoghegan. Working in oils, Dressler’s works often focus on landscapes.

Dressler is a member of the Charlotte and North Carolina Plein Air Painters. Her work has been accepted into numerous exhibitions and received awards in the following juried competitions: Second Place – 2013 Fall into Art Juried Art Competition, Charlotte Art League; Purchase Award, Bank of York – 2013 Summerfest Art Show; and First Place – 2012 Summerfest Art Show, York, SC.

Mary McCorkle painted occasionally for years while she worked in a career as a public school teacher. For the last 5 years, McCorkle has painted in oils under the tutelage of Andy Braitman. She also studied figure painting in classes with Miriam Durkin and Stephen Early of Philadelphia.

McCorkle, “paints with color and brushstrokes that bring a musicality to the subject; a dance of light, shadow, lines, and form. She suggests rather than defines. Loose strokes bring movement and life to the experience she works to share.”

McCorkle has shown in juried exhibitions at the Elder Gallery, Providence Gallery, Red Sky Gallery and Charlotte Art League.
