Gallery 80808 in Columbia, SC, Features Vista Studio Artists & Invited Guest

Gallery 80808, inside Vista Studios, in Columbia, SC, will offer the exhibition Fuse for this year's Artista Vista, which takes place Apr. 27, from 5-9pm and Apr. 28, from 11-4pm. The exhibition pairs the artists of Vista Studios with guest artists. The exhibition continues through May 17.

Fuse offered the Vista Studio's artists, the opportunity to share the art of inspiring colleagues, to present the work of emerging artists, to encompass additional media in a Gallery 80808 show, as well as to collaborate.

One of several Vista Studio artists who turns to an inspiring colleague, painter Mike Williams invites painter and friend Stephen Chesley, who, like Williams, draws his inspiration from the southern landscape: Williams from cypress swamps and Chesley from landscapes at evocative half-light. Vista Studio sculptor Bob Allison invites photographer Bradley Holiday. Allison admires the sculptural quality of Holiday's black and white photographs which present inanimate objects as intricately designed bodies. Member artist Pat Callahan pairs with Troy Wingard, who shares her passion for drawing the figure. Wingard considers drawing a sacrament in his life and views his tightly-rendered pastel portraits as living representations of his experiences and most personal relationships.

Vista Studio painter Robert Kennedy also invites an artist who shares his iconography of the human form. Kennedy pairs with his daughter "Way Way" Kennedy, an emerging artist who paints large-scale details of the figure. Vista Studio sculptor Carol Barks likewise invites an emerging artist, Kitsy Armato.

Vista Studio artist Charles Dillingham invites Richard Morgan. Dillingham works in a variety of media including Morgan's choice, stained glass. Morgan brings contemporary design sensibility to this ancient art form. Further widening the media selection is Vista Studio painter and printmaker Ethel Brody who pulls in electronic media with her invitation to Beau Bonnoitt. Bonnoitt collaborated with local film contractor Lynn Cornfoot to produce the as-yet-untitled video triptych which will be installed at the gallery for Artista Vista. Vista Studio painter Laura Spong invites painter Liisa Salosaari Jasinski, whose work has branched into new media. Jasinski's canvases evolved into metal works after a life-changing visit to a scrap-metal yard - "the ultimate sculpture garden".

Vista Studio painter Janette Grassi teams with Bernadette Vielbig to create the site-specific installation Googly Eyes. Vielbig is a visiting artist assistant professor with the department of art, University of SC, Columbia. Her installations tap - with ample humor and sarcasm - into the ever present chaos of our culture.

Paintings by Vista Studio artist Tonya Gregg will complete the expanded offerings of Fuse.
