Works by William & Susan Logan at Wickwire in Hendersonville, NC

A Gallery for all seasons - Wickwire fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, begins this Spring with the exhibition, Out of the Shadows Into the Light by William H. Logan and Susan Glover Logan, on view from Apr. 6 - May 11.

Bill Logan has made a study of trees and Susan Logan of little country churches - portraits which seem to leap off the page. Their subjects are shapes and images defined by light. It is a visual world photography endeavor which blends into prints their unique talents. Bill's developing solutions are as tried 'n true as those used by the first photographers in the 1800s. His primary genius is large negative nature photography, and Susan's is in the use of a medium-format camera and a digital camera focusing with an awe of and passion for the world around her.

As unending source of enjoyment, their art form begs for one to see more. Between Bill's 4-by-5-inch, large format "Woody" field camera and Susan's Minolta 645 they express their passion for black and white photography like the professionals they humbly do not consider themselves.

The themes of their photography however can be as varied as the world around them. A visual world which is reduced to the two dimensional realm of black and white where shadow and light define the form and allows the essence of the subject matter to shine through in a particular and fascinating way.

The simplicity of black and white allows the viewer to relate to the image as it is presented in the photograph and can evoke feelings and deep emotions that speak to the heart as well as to the mind.

Prints may even be subject to sepia toning for a pleasing brown effect. Should you ask them to show you - they'll be happy to share. Favorite images from "light breaking through a naked window" to "pines being transformed into art" are their love.
