Hive Studio & Gallery in Columbia, SC, Presents Works by Darlene Warren Doerr

The Hive Studio and Gallery in Columbia, SC, welcomes Darlene Warren Doerr in an exhibition that speaks of the devastation of her abuse as a child and the hope of recovery and the promise of a world that is safe for children. The exhibition entitled, Shattering the Silence, corresponds with Child Abuse Awareness Month. The exhibition begins on Apr. 7 and will continue through May 3, 2002.

Doerr uses found objects, keepsakes (especially things from the 40's and 50's) and antiques. When she sees something it makes an instant connection in her mind. Often the work is built on her pain, sometimes joy. She welcomes both feelings. Doerr assembles things until they become a cohesive whole. Her work creates a picture of emotions, past and present. Her greatest hope is that her work will educate. The building of the art, the releasing of her past and the opportunity to reach and teach others is her reward.

Doerr is an Augusta State University Graduate with a BFA. Her awards and distinctions are numerous. She has participated in many workshops and exhibitions. Doerr has been a speaker for Take Back the Night in both Augusta and Atlanta for several years.
