I. P. Simons Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Elena Madden and Michael Gray

Artista Vista 2002 at the I. Pinckney Simons Gallery in Columbia, SC, features works by Elena Madden and Michael Gray. Their exhibit, Interpretations of the Southern Landscape, is on view during Artista Vista on Apr. 26 & 27, 2002.

Elena Madden

For years Madden has studied the southern landscape. She particularly enjoys the abstract nature of both sky and water when combined with the reflection of light. This energy inspires Madden to paint large canvases that reflect the energy of rapidly changing shapes on land and water. Her work becomes a free expression of beautiful flowing shapes and strong colors of blues, greens, and golds almost to the point of abstraction. Madden's oils on canvas are beautiful and bold and portray the strong energy of this popular young artist. New paintings by Elena Madden may be seen at both I. Pinckney Simons Galleries, in Columbia and Beaufort, SC.

Michael Gray

Michael Gray's work represents a lifetime of dedication to the impressionist technique. He has traveled to England and France to study the work of the founders of the impressionist movement. Gray's new collection of coastal paintings represent the backroads and beaches of the SC coast. His works are soft and light in mood reflecting the solitude of the place and tune of day. Gray reveals what he sees through his own impressionist style and warm palette inviting the observer to experience colors not realized before.
