North West Artists League Competition at the Wilkes Art Gallery

Nearly $2000 in awards in 4 categories and awards for Best in Show and a People's Choice Award will be presented at the 23rd Annual Northwest Artists League Juried Competition April 5-26, at the Wilkes Art Gallery in North Wilkesboro, NC. The categories artists may enter are Paintings, Drawings and Original Prints; Miniatures; Sculpture, Pottery and Fibers; and Photography. Sponsored by the Wilkes Art Gallery, the Northwest Artists League, and numerous local businesses and individuals, this popular annual exhibit draws artists from throughout Wilkes County as well as the surrounding region.

Artists interested in entering the show may submit up to 12 pieces of work, three in each of the four categories. While there is no entry fee for the show, only artists who are members of both the Northwest Artists League, $15 and the Wilkes Art Gallery, $35, are eligible to participate. In addition to eligibility for the annual NAL Competition, these memberships include monthly newsletters, discounts on Gallery workshops, and invitations to monthly exhibits. Artists will also receive notification of how to enter other annual shows such as June's Art for the Garden and December's Christmas Show & Sale, both sponsored by the Wilkes Art Gallery.

Display of artists work would not be possible without the support of individuals and companies who recognize the significant role the arts play in our lives. The Wilkes Art Gallery and the Northwest Artists League are grateful to the following individuals and companies who have donated award money and agreed to make Purchase Awards for this year's exhibit.

Sponsors are Quickframe. Inc., overall show sponsor; Rick and Sheila Brame for the Margaret Bloomfield Award for "Best In Show"; Dr. Paul Coggins, the "People's Choice" Award. First place awards are given in each category. The Northwest Artist's League, Frank and Bonnie Rhodes, James and Beverly Cook, and Cassie Stone Photography are the sponsors. Ora Owen, Dick and Barbara Johnston, Dr. and Mrs. Brad Shinaman, Ron and Nancy Canter and an anonymous donor sponsor the second place awards in each category. The third place awards are sponsored by David and Wanda Henson, Dr. and Mrs. Kirk Gulden, Mary Anne Caplinger, and Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Bums. Supporters who will be making Purchase Awards include Martha Brame, Dermox, Inc., Kendall Forester, Todd and Diana Swofford, David and Connie McNeill, and Dr. and Mrs. Robert Ricketts.
