Charleston County Public Library in Downtown Charleston, SC, Features Works by Dianne Tennyson
The Main Branch of the Charleston County Public Library system in downtown Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, Landscape as a Metaphor, featuring works in oils and pastel by Dianne Tennyson. The exhibition presented in the Saul Alexander Gallery, located on the first floor of the downtown library will be on view during the month of Apr., 2003.
While traveling through the desserts of New Mexico, the woods of the Carolinas, and the rivers and plantations of South Carolina, Tennyson was captivated by the meaning landscapes brought to her life. She explored the metaphors of light, water, clouds, paths and roads as a means of personal therapy and healing. This work provided her the emotional and spiritual growth that literally transformed her life.
After obtaining an AS degree
in nursing and working six months at the Medical University of
South Carolina in Charleston, in the operating room, Tennyson
left to visit the great art museums of Europe and began her career
as an artist. She received her BA in studio art from the College
of Charleston and her MAT in art education from the University
of South Carolina and has worked and taught actively as an artist
in Charleston.
Tennyson has performed over 2000 clinical hours of work and completed
graduate courses at the University of Oklahoma and USC to receive
her ATR (Registered Art Therapist). She presently resides in Mt.
Pleasant, SC, with her daughters and teaches art at James Island
High School and gives private instruction at her studio in her
home.
