City Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Fletcher Crossman

The City Gallery of the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibit of acrylic on canvas by Mt. Pleasant artist Fletcher Crossman, April 16 - May 14, 2003, entitled Forgotten Corners.

Having been trained in painting under Lazlo Acs at the University of Lancaster, Fletcher Crossman, 37, spent many years working in London, first as a teacher and then as an illustrator. As his work became better known and published internationally, he moved into fine art and developed his particular love of figure painting. Fletcher exhibits annually at the New York Art Expo and at other national art shows; locally, he won this year's Portrait Knockdown Exhibition in Charleston. He currently lives in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Crossman comments on his work: "It takes me a long time to paint an object. That gives me many hours to wonder about where the object has been, who made it, and what stories it could tell. These paintings are really about stories, except all that are left of the stories are a few artifacts: a half-empty bottle of wine, a lantern, and a jewelry box. Perhaps for someone at a particular time these objects were important, but now they are just objects left sitting on a shelf gathering dust in forgotten corners."
