Richland County Public Library in Downtown Columbia, SC, Features Works by Vera B. Williams

The Main Branch of the Richland County Public Library system in downtown Columbia, SC, will present an exhibition of works by Vera B. Williams, author and illustrator of children's book. The exhibition will be on display in the Wachovia Gallery will be on view from Apr. 15 through May 4, 2003.

The exhibit will coincide with RCPL's 17th annual storytelling festival, A(ugusta) Baker's Dozen: A Celebration of Stories, which will take place on Apr. 25-26, 2003. Williams, the creator of many distinguished and beloved picture books, is the featured guest for this event. Williams began working with children's books in 1975, when she illustrated the Remy Charlip and Lilian Moore book Hooray for Me! Williams began her career in children's literature with many years of experience as a poet, graphic designer, educator and political organizer, as well as a natural sense for storytelling.

Williams' picture book A Chair for My Mother received the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for illustration and was named a Caldecott Honor Book by the American Library Association. The School Library Journal has also selected several of her books as Best Children's Books.
