RedSky Gallery and The Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte, NC, Announce Winners of Juried Teapot Show

RedSky Gallery and The Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte, NC, sponsored a teapot competition for members of the Carolina Claymatters pottery guild. Thirty teapots were submitted by local artists, and the pots were judged by Mark Leach, Deputy Director of The Mint Museums and Melissa Post, Curator of The Mint Museum of Craft + Design.

A resulting exhibition entitled, Teapot Extravaganza, featuring teapots from current RedSky gallery ceramic artists and members of the Carolina Claymatters pottery guild will be on view at the gallery from Mar. 4 - 29, 2004.

Dale Duncan, from York, SC, created a Jurassic Teapot judged Best In Show. Winners in other categories were as follows: Most Innovative: Jennifer Kinkaid; Asian Influence, Karen Kammer; North Carolina Folk Art: Hal Dedmond; and Best Altered or reconstructed: Sandy Singletary. The judges felt that several of the pots could have qualified on more than one category.

The winning teapots were sold at live auction held Mar. 4, and a silent auction was held Mar. 5 for the remaining teapots. A percentage of the proceeds from the sales of the teapots will be given by RedSky to The Mint Museums.
