College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, Features Annual Art Student Exhibition

The William Halsey Gallery at the College of Charleston's School of the Arts in Charleston, SC, will host its annual juried student exhibition, Young Contemporaries, from Apr. 1 - 27, 2005. This year's juror is John Phillips, Professor of Painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

The Studio Art Department at the College offers instruction in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Each spring, students at the College who have shown exceptional artistic ability are invited to exhibit in the professional setting of the gallery. Young Contemporaries 2005, offers the greater Charleston community a unique opportunity to view works produced by students from the College.

As a painter, John Phillips has addressed the concepts of minimalism, abstraction and color-field painting with both jest and complexity. He is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts, Visual Artist Fellowship, and two Illinois Arts Council grants.

Young Contemporaries 2005, is sponsored by the Halsey Gallery, the Department of Studio Art, and the Visual Arts Club.
