Throughout history flowers have inspired artists with their inherent beauty, color and form. Jerald Melberg Gallery is pleased to present a survey of paintings, works on paper, fine prints and sculpture by gallery artists featuring the flower. The works on view in this exhibition are as varied as the artists who created them, ranging from traditional floral still lifes to fantastical three-dimensional carvings. Participating artists include Thomas Buechner, Raul Diaz, Daniel Douke, Wolf Kahn and Emily Wilson, among others.

Gertrude Beals Bourne

Gertrude Beals Bourne (1868-1962) is known for her beautiful Impressionist watercolors of still lifes, seascapes, flowers and gardens. In addition to frequent trips to Europe, Bourne developed her style in her hometown of Boston, where she included among her friends and neighbors Maurice and Charles Prendergast, Arthur Wesley Dow, and Frederick Law Olmsted.

During her career Bourne's work was featured in numerous exhibitions at such prestigious institutions as the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others. Her work may also be found in many permanent collections, such as the National Museum of American Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Peabody- Essex Museum.
