Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, Offers New Exhibitions

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, will present two new exhibits including: Capturing a Transient World: A Contemporary Look at Louisiana, on view in Gallery A, West Wing, from Apr. 4 through Aug. 2, 2008, and IN Black & White Photographs Investigating Louisiana's Coastline; Words from LUMCON's Permanent Collection, on view in Gallery B and Mayer Gallery, West Wing, from Apr. 4 through Aug. 2, 2008.

Capturing a Transient World: A Contemporary Look at Louisiana focuses on the ever-changing coastal lands of Louisiana. An interpretive, multi-media response to the multiplicity of ideas and thoughts focusing on the intricacies surrounding the endangered Louisiana coastline investigates the adverse effects of the disappearance of the coastline and estuaries are having on the rich Louisianan culture and way of life. Participating artists include: Karin Eberhardt, Dennis Sipiorski, Delaina LeBlanc, Toby Morriss, Cassandra Seawell and Daniel Kariko, among others.

IN Black & White Photographs Investigating Louisiana's Coastline; Words from LUMCON's Permanent Collection, presented in conjunction with Capturing a Transient World, presents photographs investigating Louisiana's coastline from the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium's (LUMCON) Permanent Collection. LUMCON offers a unique educational course that uses the magnificent and endangered backdrop of the Louisiana estuaries to introduce students to black and white photography.
