Bluewood Gallery in Brevard, NC, Offers Works by Jack Christfield & Steve Owen

Bluewood Gallery in Brevard, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Local Landscapes and Travelers Tales, featuring images by two North Carolina photographers, Jack Christfield and Steve Owen, on view through Apr. 30, 2009. The exhibit is focused on landscapes of the Carolinas, and will include images of other parts of the United States, Canada and Europe.

Jack Christfield's interest in photography began in high school and in college he continued learning about light, composition, darkroom technique and black and white printing. His career allowed him to travel extensively in the United States, Europe, Japan and Africa where he photographed the people, landscapes, culture and architecture. In 2007, his photograph Mountain Clouds and Ice was awarded Best in Show in the Blue Ridge Fine Photography exhibit sponsored by the Transylvania County Arts Council. He continues to be an avid photographer of Western North Carolina. His images at Bluewood Gallery include recent images from Tuscany and the Canadian Rockies.

Christfield has been published in Our State and Blue Ridge Country magazines. He is a steering committee member of the Land of Waterfalls Camera Club. His favorite quote is "Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gizmos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn't make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel". (Attributed to Peter Adams)

Steve Owen is a native of Brevard and grew up enjoying the forest and streams of Western North Carolina. Up until the last three years, he primarily took photographs of properties for sale in his real estate business. Now, he is a member of the Lands of Waterfalls Camera Club and the Photographic Society of America. His images have been featured in the PSA Journal and have been featured on several websites. The majority of his images are from Western North Carolina and he also has an extensive portfolio of images of the Canadian Rockies, Glacier National Park and Montana.

Owen's favorite quote is "A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety." (Attributed to Ansel Adams)

Bluewood Gallery is located in downtown Brevard, recently named "Best Arts & Culture Destination for a population under 30,000" by Mountain Homes Southern Style Magazine and "new vibrant art hub" by Blue Ridge Country Magazine. The gallery specializes in fine art photography and offers a variety of other art mediums, plus custom framing.
