April Issue 2009

The Haen Gallery in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Stephen Pentak

The Haen Gallery, located in downtown Asheville, NC, will present an exhibition of paintings by the artist Stephen Pentak entitled New Work From Kinderhook Creek. The exhibition will open on Apr. 11 and will continue through May 21, 2009.

Pentak is an accomplished and celebrated artist known for his minimalist renderings of panoramic landscapes. He received his BA from Union College in New York and his MFA from The Tyler School of Art at Temple University. He is Professor Emeritus of Art, and a past Associate Dean of the College of the Arts at Ohio State University.

Pentak is an avid fly fisherman and has always been inspired by the surrounding natural landscape. The artist's process of scraping and layering paint onto birch panel, adding and subtracting to create the shapes and textures of trees, lakes, and rivers, is uniquely appropriate to his chosen subject matter because it begins to emulate the processes of nature itself.

New Work From Kinderhook Creek is a presentation of Pentak's latest body of work, inspired by the artist's move to Stephentown, NY.
