Earthworks Gallery in Greensboro, NC, Features Works by Claudia Dunaway and John D. Richards

Earthworks Gallery, one of the largest selections of North Carolina Pottery under one roof, in Greensboro, NC, will present Jump into the Puddle, featuring works by Claudia Dunaway and John D. Richards, artists and owners of the Yummy Mud Puddle, on view from Apr. 5 - 30, 2013. A reception will be held on Apr. 5, from 6-9pm.

Claudia Dunaway has been a potter for 40 years, and it shows in the intricate details and pure craftsmanship of her work. This Reidsville, NC, native and UNC-G graduate has traveled and gained inspiration from all over, but now fires up her kiln at the Yummy Mud Puddle Studios in Burnsville, NC.

The Yummy Mud Puddle sits atop 10 acres of majestic forest in an area filled with creative spirit and professional crafts people that influence Dunaway’s work. Pops of colors interlaced with the muted earth tones typical of her work, give each piece of art depth and variation. The vintage sci-fi rocket ships, robots, and alien women, all original drawings by John and Claudia, are made into underglaze silkscreen printed images that are transferred to the surface of each piece. The images are fired onto the work and are permanent. All of Dunaway’s work is intended for use with glazes that are food safe as well as dishwasher and microwave safe. Choose from mugs, bowls, tea pots, vases, pitchers, lidded jars and more.

Joining Dunaway will be John D. Richards as a special guest to Earthworks Gallery. Although he is a mixed media artist, there are no mixed feelings about his work. The self-proclaimed “art machine” uses old computer parts, wire, discarded toy pieces, spark plugs, and trash to create one-of-a-kind works of art. His unique and vibrantly colored lamps, wire-work, and various compositions were once seen at Tiffany & Co., Bonwit Teller, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, The Museum of Contemporary Crafts NYC, The Museum of Modern Art, Jacksonville, FL, and they’ve been shown in various publications including House & Garden, Southern Living Magazine, The New York Times, and The London Times, just to name a few. During the exhibit Richards will create an “alumifish” out of clean cat food can lids.

Please join Earthworks Gallery in their celebration of Yummy Mud Puddle and the awe-inspiring work of Claudia Dunaway and John D. Richards.
