The Summer House Gallery in Highlands, NC, Features Works by Vicki Ferguson

The Summer House Gallery in Highlands, NC, will present an exhibition of new works by wildlife and environmental artist Vicki Ferguson. The exhibition opens May 13 and continues through May 31. In addition to being a wildlife artist, Ferguson is a scientific illustrator and research entomologist. She holds a doctorate in entomology and plant pathology. Her art work is exhibited in art shows and galleries along the east coast; and is the permanent collection of the city of Orlando, FL.

Ferguson has won numerous awards for her work and was selected to design and execute the artwork for a state sponsored series of fish identification posters for Florida. Last fall, her artwork was selected by the Coolidge Park Grande Celebration, Chattanooga, TN, for their park's grand opening commemorative poster. One of Ferguson's newest works is titled Tiger Tails. This image has been printed as a limited edition reproduction. The edition is limited to 965, each signed and numbered. For each print purchased, 15% will be donated to the "Save the Tiger Fund." The Fund is a special project of the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation is partnership with the Exxon/Mobile Corporation. It was established as an effort to assist in the long term survival of tigers in the wild.

The artist attended Clemson University, where she received her BS in economic biology and her MS in entomology. She received her PhD from the University of Florida. Aside from her husband, Don, her family consists of a large red-bone hound, three cats, two chinchillas, a prairie dog and four mice. When not in central Florida, they can be found on their property in the mountains of NC.

Ferguson will be the artist-in-residence at The Summer House Gallery from May 22 through May 29. Please plan to come by and see how she created her art.
