TwoArtChicks in Greensboro, NC, Features Works by Molly Lithgo and Jim Rientjes

TwoArtChicks in Greensboro, NC, is proud to present From the Ground Up, a collection of individual and collaborative creations in wood, ceramics and oil by Molly Lithgo and Jim Rientjes, on view from May 5 through June 25, 2005.

The exhibit will include Lithgo's floral-themed oil paintings and unique ceramic pieces, Rientjes' beautiful wood-turnings and furniture, as well as pieces combining work from them both, illustrating why they are one of the Greensboro art scene's premier couples.

A Greensboro native, Lithgo earned her BFA in drawing and painting from the Atlanta College of Art in 1982 and her MFA in drawing and painting from UNC-Greensboro in 1988. She is a full-time studio artist working primarily in clay; her background in two-dimensional art greatly influences her clay work, illustrated by the drawn and painted glazes of her utilitarian pottery. Lithgo teaches drawing part-time at Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, NC, and for Art Alliance in Greensboro. She also exhibits her work across the East Coast and her work is in private collections throughout the US, England, Spain and Japan.

Jim Rientjes began woodworking in the 1970's and is largely self-taught. He spent a year in 1997-98 studying in the Fine & Creative Woodworking program at Rockingham Community College, during which time he discovered and fell in love with woodturning. Rientjes' distinct work is often characterized by multiple species of wood in one piece: "I enjoy the high contrast that is possible with mixing woods," explains Rientjes. "Wood variety gives the piece both color and character and can sometimes add a certain amount of visual tension and sensuousness to the design."

Rientjes' work has been exhibited throughout North Carolina, as well as in Pennsylvania, and is in numerous private collections throughout the country. He is a member of the Furniture Society, the American Association of Woodturners, the Greensboro Artists' League and the Carolina Clay Guild.

TwoArtChicks represents close to 300 diverse artists from across the country. Its gallery showcases original artwork and fine crafts: everything from watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, ceramics, jewelry, fiber arts, cards, metal, sculpture, dolls, mixed media, wood and much more! In addition to its sales gallery, TwoArtChicks also has 12 working artist studios for lease annually, offers classes and workshops by local, national and international artists in traditional arts and fine crafts and offers the building for rental for special events and activities.
