Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Joann Davis

Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, will feature works by Joann Davis, through May 31, 2006.

Davis' art ranges from realism to experimental. Her work reflects her upbringing in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Her summers were spent at local Charleston beaches and many of her memories of growing up here are reflected in her work. Her love of nature can be seen in her paintings of marsh, ocean, and beach scenes.

Davis grew up in an artistic family, the youngest of four children. Her father was a commercial sign designer and artist. Though she has pursued studies with various instructors much of what she learned about art was through osmosis, watching and listening to her father. Davis' art has developed into a unique form using a combination of media: watercolors, inks, collage, and monotypes. Her ink paintings have developed through experimentation using seawater and sand to give her work a distinct underwater feel and landscapes a three-dimensional effect.

Davis is a member of the South Carolina Watercolor Society, and the Charleston Artist Guild, of which she served as President in 1989-1990. She has won many awards for her work over a thirty-five year period. Davis has exhibited her work from Connecticut to Florida to Texas and on the Island of Bermuda. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections around the world. Davis' work can also be seen at the SC Artisan Center in Walterboro, SC.
