Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Amelia Rose Smith and J. Michael Kennedy

Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Enchanted Evening, featuring a new group of paintings by Amelia Rose Smith and J. Michael Kennedy. The exhibition opens on May 5 and continues through June 30, 2006.

Kennedy and Smith have been represented by Waterfront Gallery since 1995 and this is their 4th show to take place at the gallery. Don't miss this opportunity to be the first to see this new show by two of Charleston's most eagerly collected artists.

Rose Smith will offer a collection of oil paintings capturing our southern spring evening time as well as a collection of impressionist-style figures toiling and relaxing in garden settings. "Creativity is a combination of invention and discovery. It is so important for me to paint images and subjects that matter to me. By doing this I discover and invent my own sense of the world around me. Whether it is a landscape, figure or still life, it's the excitement of fleeting moments of beauty that jump up the brush and hurry to the easel," says Rose Smith.

Michael Kennedy has spent the last eleven years studying and painting the Lowcountry landscape and the city of Charleston, and has more recently worked on a series of coastal pieces featuring Wilmington and areas as far north as Morehead City, NC. His new work will include many nighttime Charleston street scenes that capture the charm of our city in the stillness of the night air.

A contemporary realist painter, Kennedy is known for his popular oil and pastel architectural paintings of the gardens and hidden corners of our unique town, but this new collection takes the theme to a new realm by showing the mysterious elements that become evident when the sun goes down and the streets and gardens are lit by gas street lamps, filtered light coming through windows and small garden lanterns. Kennedy will also include new landscapes capturing the sunsets and the colors of the sky and water of the Lowcountry at dusk and later.
