Carolina Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Philip Juras and Betty Robinson

Carolina Galleries in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, New Works by Philip Juras and Betty Robinson, opening on May 4 and continuing through May 31, 2007. A founding member of the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association (CFADA), the gallery upholds the centuries old tradition of fine works of art of and about the South. This tradition continues with the new works by these two fine artists.

Philip Juras

Philip Juras is a native of Augusta, GA. Born in the late 1960s, he is a landscape painter. His love for natural landscapes began on the many trips his family made exploring the forests and fields of the Southeast. This enthusiasm continued to grow from many years of travel through Europe and the United States. His work as an artist began in earnest when studying in Cortona, Italy. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia in 1990, he traveled, painting landscapes, including those of England, Germany, India, and the western US.

Juras earned a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia in 1997, writing his thesis on the pre-settlement savannahs that once flourished across the southeastern piedmont. After working two years in the landscape architecture profession in Alexandria, VA, Juras returned to Athens to devote himself more fully to painting. The majority of his current work explores southeastern landscapes that have remained in a natural state, although he still paints during his foreign travel. Juras's work is held in private collections in the US, Germany and India, and has been exhibited solo as well as juried group exhibitions.

Betty Robinson

Betty Robinson, a native of Greer, SC, resides in Georgetown, SC. A graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, Robinson received advanced art training at the Chattanooga Art Institute, the Vermont Studio Center, and the University of Tennessee. A lifetime of painting is acknowledged with the numerous awards she has received from the South Carolina Watercolor, Tennessee and Kentucky Watercolor Societies. Her paintings are in many museum and corporate collections.

Robinson's love of landscape, particularly the marshland, shows as she captures the ever changing coastline of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Her use of color and line is evident as watercolor and color pencil intertwine expressing light and movement. The immediate impact of her work is the magnificent use of color combined with an abstract vision on a predominantly realist landscape. The result is an energized, vibrant painting equally comfortable in a traditional or modern environment.
