Havens Framemakers and Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Rob Shaw and Steven Whetstone

Havens Framemakers and Gallery in Columbia, SC, presents its annual spring art opening called Carolina Rhythms. The exhibition will feature new works by two up and coming young artists, Rob Shaw and Steven Whetstone. The exhibit will be on view from May 1 through June 1, 2008.

Rob Shaw is a native of Columbia. He earned a Bachelors degree in art studio from USC in 2000. Since graduating, he has had numerous shows in South Carolina galleries. He has also been an award-winning contributor to Art-A-Must, State Fair and NBSC Oil Painter's Invitational. Recently, Shaw was a contender for South Carolina Young Artist of the Year. He principally works in oil, painting Columbia scenery and low-country landscapes. His work has an impressionistic feel with an impasto technique. Viewed from a distance, Shaw's paintings are representational; viewed inches away, they have an almost abstract quality.

Steven Whetstone graduated from USC with a Bachelors degree in Art Studio in 2002. He is currently represented by Havens Gallery in Columbia. His work is sought after by collectors, both individual and corporate, and has appeared in numerous articles and magazines. The most recently notable acquisitions have been winning the Contemporaries Viewer's Choice Award at The Columbia Museum of Art in 2004 for Young Artist of the Year and a Purchase Patron Award at the South Carolina State Fair in 2004. Whetstone mainly paints local Columbia scenes. Currently, he is working on a series of jazz musicians. The sultry scenes have a mood and atmosphere that transforms the viewer to the dimly lit club, where they can feel the ambiance of a night out on the town.
