Picture This Gallery on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Mark Tierney and Don Baker

Picture This Gallery on Hilton Head Island, SC, will present a photographic exhibition of works by Mark Tierney and Don Baker, on view from May 6 - 30, 2009.

Mark Tierney

"I came to the realization that I was really recording the light, not the subject being illuminated by the light," says Mark Tierney. "Now, in addition to line, tone and texture as the main component of composition, color has now become an important factor. With the use of a scanning back and Photoshop I still use the processes (large format photography) in a relatively traditional way, as a means to a 'pre-visualized' end".

Don Baker

Don Baker offers, "Although you will be immediately attracted by the obvious and generous use of bright color, depicted in a painterly fashion, I hope the composition of each work will entice you to receive messages at one and more different levels; maybe we'll find a connection. Perhaps you will receive the intensity that I received during my interaction with the subject. Perhaps you will receive a softness that I received from the subject matter. Perhaps it's the intimacy".

Tierney will offer a lecture about his work on May 13, 2009 at 7pm and Baker will offer one on May 27, 2009, at 7pm. The events are free and open to the public.
