Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Cindy Taplin and Lea Lackey-Zachmann

Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, is presenting a two-person exhibit of acrylic paintings by Cindy Taplin and Lea Lackey-Zachmann, on view through May 29, 2010.

Cindy Taplin

Cindy Taplin is showing paintings inspired by her trip last year to Mendocino, CA. She was drawn especially to the colorful 19th century houses with their picket fences and flowering gardens. Her new paintings are from photographs taken on an early morning walk. The sunlight on the houses created striking contrasts, with strong lines between the bright colors and the dark shadows softened by the foliage and delicate blooms of the gardens. Taplin is a native of Forsyth County. She earned a BA in Mathematics at Salem College, where she also studied studio art. She paints full time in her studio in the Arts District of Winston-Salem.

Lea Lackey Zachmann

Lea Lackey-Zachmann is showing acrylic paintings based on photographs of flowers taken from a microscope. She received her MFA in painting and her Graduate Teacher Certification from UNC-G, and earned a BA in Art/Art Education from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. She has taught at High Point University since 1988, and before that at Salem College for 9 years.
