Green Rice Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Holt McLean

Green Rice Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, The Changing of the Seasons, featuring works by Holt McLean, on view from May 7 - 30, 2010.

McLean offer the following statement about her work, "The changing of the seasons is what brought me, and I'm sure millions of others, back to North Carolina. It may even be the reason many travel here for the first time. I learned you really do have to move away in order to appreciate what you had. I like change; change is good. You always have something to look forward to, then get tired of, but it's ok cause in perfect timing the weather and the seasons change, giving you new hope and a new outlook on life."

"This May I choose to focus my body of work on the beauty of North Carolina and the transition into each season," adds McLean. "Over the past 5 years I have developed a stronger style using bolder, brighter colors and applying the paint mostly with the palette knife for added texture. Up close I want the work to feel more abstract and have the painting be more about color relations and the building of layers. From afar you get a sense of relaxation and joy from the overall image as the painting becomes a recognizable scene, a memory of time spent on a hike through the woods or the calm stillness after a winter snowfall. Most of all I want my work to pull the audience in and bring pleasant thoughts and memories that will last a lifetime."
