Portfolio Art Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Shannon Bueker

The Portfolio Art Gallery in Columbia, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Down in the Meadow with Shannon Bueker, on view through May 10, 2010.

Bueker's large scale acrylic series features scenes of animals and nature in bold, gestural strokes of pencil, charcoal, and graphite on wood and canvas. The artist uses line and color to "reveal nature's grace and unfold its layers of interactions, interconnections and surprising overlaps." The effect is fluid and powerful and surrounds the viewer with energy and spirit.

Since earning her BFA at the University of Texas in Austin, Bueker has made a living as a visual artist based in North Carolina working with acrylics, watercolor and in sculpture. Heavily influenced by Mexican art and culture, Matisse, and expressionist Franz Marc, her work can be seen in galleries in the Southeast, and exclusively in South Carolina at Portfolio Art Gallery, a Top 100 retailer of American craft.
