The Advent Shoppe in Spartanburg, SC, Offers Trunk Show of Pottery by Maggie Jones - May 9, 2013

The Advent Shoppe in Spartanburg, SC, will offer a special Trunk Show of pottery by Maggie Jones on Thursday, May 9, from 11am - 6pm. The Shoppe is a ministry of the Episcopal Church of the Advent. This all day event will have finger sandwiches and cookies all day.

Jones will exhibit a cross section of her work featuring her vases and lidded bowls. She is a member of the Southern Highland Crafts Guild.

Jones is inspired by antique pottery from the Arts and Crafts Movement and the early Art Nouveau styles. Antiques are often her reference points for new ideas. With no formal education, she has been working as a potter since she was nineteen years old, learning the craft of making pottery under the direction of her Junior High School art teacher. By High School graduation she was proficient at wheel-work and became a full-time apprentice for a studio potter in Tarrytown, NY. At age nineteen, she opened her own studio and fired with a gas kiln at the fledgling Farmington Valley Art Center in Avon, CT.

Jones has been living and working in the mountains of NC since 1977 along with her husband, Freeman Jones. She is quoted as saying, “change in our work from the strictly functional crafted wares to the artfully sculpted works, I feel I am a newly emerging artist with the ability to expand into new types of venues. The antique art pottery collector, sculpture collector and interior designer are customers who appreciate these one of a kind decorative wares”. She works out of her Studio, Turtle Island Pottery in Old Fort, NC.

The Advent Shoppe is located at 161 Advent Street in Spartanburg, SC.
