Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Feature Works by Cindy Taplin and Lea Lackey-Zachmann

Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, is presenting a two-person exhibit of acrylic paintings by Cindy Taplin and photographs and video by Lea Lackey-Zachmann, on view through June 1, 2013. Receptions will be held on May 3 and May 11, from 7-10pm.

In her latest paintings, Cindy Taplin attempts to reconcile her love of geometric patterns and mechanical devices with her love of nature. She places chain link fences on earthy burnt sienna backgrounds, or sets a bird atop a fence as a reminder that no matter what barriers one constructs nature will find a way to claim it was here first.

Taplin is a native of Forsyth County. She earned a BA in Mathematics at Salem College, where she also studied studio art. She paints full time in her studio in the Arts District of Winston-Salem.

Lea Lackey-Zachmann’s current work focuses on celebrating trees using photographs and video. She states, “Recent science has unveiled new evidences of benefits for humans and animals through the large number of aerosols emitted by trees, the cleansing effect of some tree root systems, and the large number of living organisms in tree canopies. This exhibition is a celebration meant to show appreciation for and perhaps bring renewed respect for the life form we know as trees.”

Zachmann currently teaches Art at High Point University. She earned her BA in Art/Art Education from Winthrop University and her MFA from UNC-G.
