Haywood County Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, Features Works by Dr. John Highsmith

The Haywood County Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, will present Under the Sea, featuring works by Dr. John Highsmith, on view in Gallery 86, from May 1 - 27, 2013. A reception will be held on May 3, from 6-9pm.

Highsmith has practiced dentistry in Haywood County since 1984. His passion for photography started during his high school studies. Highsmith now combines his love of the underwater world with his photographic vision. Since his wife of 28 years, Sandra, and both kids, Mark and Becky, all enjoy scuba diving, Highsmith believes that this is a natural union.

“Underwater photography is harder than land photography. Fish do not pose! And you also have to focus on not dying while doing it, which only adds to the fun,” says Highsmith.

The mission of the Haywood County Arts Council is to build partnerships that promote art and artists, explore new cultural opportunities, and preserve mountain artistic heritage. This project was supported by the NC Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
