Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, Features Works by John Nygren and Carol Bechtel

The Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, will be showing the works of two artists through June 16. The exhibits are: Carol Bechtel: recent paintings and glass feature John Nygren: recent works.

Carol Bechtel creates paintings often reminiscent of landscapes but fully grounded in abstract expression. Layer upon layer of translucent colors blend into rich, radiant surfaces.

Artist Bechtel remarks, "Much of my work is about how things go together, or touch, or separate. I am fascinated with gravity, balance, and symmetry. While light, color, and transparency are my passion, making order from chaos, and calmness from tension, are the challenges. The work is always hopeful, and optimistic because that is my nature, and of course, I do relish the resulting surprises."

Bechtel has exhibited throughout the south, mostly in her home state of Florida. She has exhibited at the Orlando, Florida City Hall Gallery, the Maitland Art Center, where she has received awards of distinction; the Women's Caucus for Art Juried Exhibit in San Francisco; and the Arts Center in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Corporate collectors including Duke University, Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, FL; SouthTrust Bank (headquarters & branches), American Express, Arthur Anderson Company, Barnett Bank of Florida, and the City of Palm Bay, Florida have added paintings by Carol Bechtel to their collections.

This is Bechtel's fourth feature exhibit at SomerhillGallery. Previously, she has participated in South Gallery exhibits in 1998, 1996 and 1994. She has also been a participant in several group exhibits.
