Fish or Cut Bait Gallery in Edisto Beach, SC, Features Works by Elena Madden

Fish or Cut Bait Gallery, located at Edisto Beach, SC, is presenting an exhibition of abstract aquatic oil paintings by Elena Madden entitled, Light Play.  The exhibit will continue through June 28, 2003.

Madden was born in Columbia, SC, and completed her BFA at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA, in 1993. After living and painting in Tennessee following her graduation, Madden felt she had to move back to the Lowcountry to be close to the ocean, rivers and lakes, which are her inspiration. Madden's paintings are filled with light and movement. She states, "Water changes constantly, based on the seasons, the time of day, and the weather patterns. I study its evolution in color and 'light play'. My paintings come from these moments of reflection and the memories they stirred."

In 2000 Madden won the prestigious Best of Show Award at the Telfair Museum of Art Juried Exhibition in Savannah, GA. Her art can be found in the collections of Memorial Medical Center, Savannah GA; Duke University, Chapel Hill, NC; Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, Columbia, SC; The Tennessee Valley Authority; Bell South, Columbia, SC; Capital Associates, Cary, NC; Strategic Resources, Columbia, SC; Piedmont Technical College, Greenwood, SC; KMC Telecom, Columbia, SC; and in numerous other public and private collections. Recent exhibits include Center of the Earth Gallery, Charlotte, NC; Signature Gallery, Tallahassee, FL; and Chroma Gallery, Savannah GA. Madden currently lives in Savannah, GA, where she now has her own studio and gallery.
